University College of Arts Library

The Library was established in 1974. The constituent Library moved into its own functional building at a central location in the University campus. UCA Library is a hub of academic activities. Students and staff of the college are the primary beneficiaries of the wealth of information available in the library. It has a large and rich collection of learning resources on different disciplines in Arts, Humanities, Social Science, Management and in allied subjects. The library has adopted in open access system to promote the use of information resources. It acts as a nerve centre catering to the academic and research needs of students, researchers and the faculty of undergraduate and post graduate departments.

Vision:
The Library vision is creating dynamic learning environment in the university campus. It responds to the physical and virtual spaces with changing habits of its users. The Library ensures the awareness of the resources available to the users. Technology and innovations make easier to access library resources.

Mission:
The Library mission is to provide comprehensive resources and services to the research, teaching and learning needs of the students and faculties in the university. To fulfill this mission, the Library commits to:

  • Understand the research, teaching, and learning needs of its users.
  • Build collections and create tools to support research, teaching, and learning.
  • Ensure the preservation and long-lasting availability of Library collections and resources.
  • Collaborate with other members of the University to enrich the research and learning community.
  • Develop, encourage, and sustain expertise, skill, commitment and an innovative spirit in its staff.

 LIBRARY PROVIDES THE FOLLOWING SERVICES AND  FACILITIES

Text Book Bank General & SC / ST Book Bank:- To cater to the increased demand for prescribed Textbook, a separate Book Bank for General category of Students and SC/ST students have been created. Students are provided with two textbooks per student, per semester.

  1. Inter Library loan: - Publications that are not available in the Library and are requested by users can be obtained on loan from other Institutes, likewise publication will also be lent out on a reciprocal basis to other Institutes.
  2. Reprographic Service: – Xerox / Photocopying service is made available in the Library.
  3. Reference Service: -Library Professionals are pleased to help the users in locating and disseminating information from the available sources in the Library. Special Reference Books for Competitive Exams(CSIR/UGC/NET/SLET,IAS,KAS, Banking, Railways & other exams)
  4. Internet Service: – Internet service is available for all categories of users of the Library.
  5. Referral service : Directing the user the documents availability in the other institution.
  6. User Education/ Orientation Programme:  is a part of the Dissemination of Information the Library. To inculcate reading habits among newly joined students and User Education    Programs/Orientation programs are conducting yearly to introduce about the library collections, services and facilities of the  library.
  7. On-line Current awareness Service: – New books, Journals, Other information sources added to the Library will be intimated to the students and Teachers through the e-mail and these can also be accessed through the university website.
  8. E- Journals: – Library has subscribed to NLIST package of E-Journals available ‘on-line’ for the benefit of its users. Only the members of the Library can access these journals through LAN.
  9. CD’s available in the Library: – for the benefit of users of the Library.
  10. Project Reports- these can  access in the library
  11. Old  Question Paper: Available in the library
  12. Open Source Resource Service: Provision has been made to access Open source resource through website http://www.sumadevi.weebly.com.

  •  Library is provided with 10 computers of latest version with DVD drive, compatible for web browsing and automation purpose.
  • Computer Configuration: Dual Core 1.8 Ghz, 1 GB Ram,320 MDD,Core  2 Duo 2.1     GHz, 2GB RAM, 320 MDD.
  • Library is provided LAN facility with Band width 1GB fibre Internet connectivity extensively used by the  students, faculties and library staff.
  • Latest Version Ms Office 2010, Nudi, Mozilla, Internet Explorer, installed,
  • Antivirus installed to secure computers from virus.
  • All Faulty has University E-mail ID to communicate/to provide Library service through e-mail.
  • Library is having TV, DVD player with remote to support the students in teaching and learning activities.
  • Library is having LCD Projector with Screen is made available to teaching faculty to conduct effective teaching Classes, Orientation Programmes, Seminars/Conferences etc.

COMPUTERISATION OF LIBRARY

  •  To bring in total library automation, library data is under computerization with the help of open source software NewGenlib Integrated Library Management software  installed to automate in-house activities and services of the library.
  • The Web Online Public Access Catalogue (Web-OPAC) will be made available to the users to identify the status of availability of documents in the library.
  • Techfocuz 4.0 Digital Library software is installed in the University Library
