VISION

The centre for Public History and Archaeology aims to get recognized as a repository of all forms of past knowledge systems available in the region, and envisages an active future where the centre will be the nodal agency for carrying out important researches on historical sciences

MISSION

The centre plans to initiate complete documentation of all material culture remains and oral history of Tumkur district, and open new vistas for the researchers and students of the region. On the basis of this initiative, the centre aims to initiate and promote multi-dimensional and interdisciplinary projects which will benefit the whole society

GOALS

  • Promote archaeological and anthropological research on the new and old worlds
  • Conduct archaeological investigations for federal, state, and local governments as well as private entities as envisaged by the laws of the country
  • Assist in the cultural resource management of tangible and intangible heritage in association with the Government
  • Train the students in the field of archaeology through direct research experience
  • Support public education through infrastructure and resources

  • Initiate investigations on the nature of historical remains of Tumkur District through new explorations and excavations

  • Arrangements of workshops, seminars and conferences on oral history and archaeology for the benefit of the scholars and public

  • Establish basic infrastructural facilities at the centre with its own building, state-of-the art laboratory, library, audio-visual and other technical equipment and manpower

  • Establish and promote a Chair of Archaeology at the Department of History and Archaeology, Tumkur University

  • Open avenues of publication for new researches on the region
